The size, mix of colors, patterns and setting, all paired with Hockney’s infamously charming style, makes for a delightfully eye-catching work of art.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nJan Frans Van Dael’s Musee Du Louvre and Andrea Mantegna’s Ceiling Of The Palazzo Ducale, Mantua satisfy that maximalist desire for extravagant flourish, with levels of careful detail whether seen from up close or from afar.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nWarhol’s cars in Formula 1 Car W 196 R (1954) and Lichtenstein’s Landscape With Figures And Rainbow both offer class and pop excitement simultaneously, experts as they were at combining high art with mass culture, resulting in many of the most enduring pop art images in history.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nRobert Indiana’s New York City Center, a 1968 silkscreen, and Keith Haring’s Andy Mouse, Dollar Sign, a 1991 silkscreen both show off how little is needed to make a big point, playful as they are with simplicity, color and voicing. Both works are additionally important junctions in the evolution of pop art, playing with themes and motifs like stars and stripes, dollar signs and Mickey Mouse, that were changing people's understanding of what art could be. These works are both quite clever on close inspection.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nLarry Rivers’ 20th Anniversary Of Lincoln Center, a 1979 poster of which there is a signed and an unsigned edition, touches on that irresistible kitsch feeling, being somehow terribly important and seriously funny all at once — and it is hard to argue with a celebratory nature, one whose fire never goes out.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nFor brilliant, over-the-top nature look to the ecstatic colors of Walasse Ting’s Flowers or to works like Bird Feeding, a signed and framed 1871 painting by an unknown artist. Opulent glamour and lush organics never fail to enliven the decor.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nWarhol’s Birth of Venus - Red brings ancient mystique into modern day vocabulary without losing any of the original spark, and Carol Barker’s London Museum Tells London's Story brings graphic history into present-day form, adding new dimensionality to old representations with colorful flair.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nAnd for some thrilling and striking expressions, Richard Lindner’s 1968 silkscreen Fun City from Multiples flaunts no less than prowling geometric bliss, and Ernst-Ludwig Kirchner’s He spent his summers on the Bay since he was a child, and while at university worked with the Canadian Coast Guard patrolling a 150-kilometre section of the coastline that extends from Parry Sound to Killarney. This shoreline, which is only accessible by boat or floatplane, is sparsely populated with small communities. These communities are functioning remnants of Georgian Bay's commercial past; mainly fishing, shipping, and tourism. Hartman began documenting these communities and the surrounding landscape to explore the human desire to be in this beautiful but, at times, harsh and unforgiving environment. He photographs using a traditional 4 x 5 view camera and recently began using a drone to make composite aerial views, producing large scale prints that immerse the viewer in the photograph.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nIn this series Hartman explores the interaction between humans and landscape and their influence on each other, a common theme found in his work. In his first series, “Highway 69”, he documented the expansion of the highway between Parry Sound and Sudbury as construction scraped away layers of the Canadian shield. This led to “Return”, a series where Hartman revisited Collins and Heron Bay in Northern Ontario, an area where he spent the first three years of his life. Over 30 years later, Hartman journeyed to find out if his memories of time and place were fictional or concrete and to photograph areas similar to the images that were in his mind's eye. <br />\r\n<br />\r\nHartman’s “Hamilton” series spans seven years and includes more than 40 photographs. Hamilton, a city best known for its steel industry, is now in a state of transition as heavy industry slowly leaves. Hartman overlooks the factories and the smoke-laden skyline that represented the city for decades and instead documents a cross-section of working-class neighbourhoods and surrounding landscapes. He focuses on the city's east end, drawn in by the people and buildings of the area. <br />\r\n<br />\r\nWith his series “The Artist’s Studio”, Hartman travelled across the country documenting Canadian artists' workspaces. TARFEST celebrates local artists, musicians and culture with DJ performances throughout the day, live painting by local legends, art installations curated from the world-class LA art community, a Lagunitas Biergarten & Cocktail Lounge, as well as the best food trucks in Los Angeles. Subverting the societal tendency to become oblivious to the presence of custodial, construction, and domestic workers, Gomez’s work elevates and centralizes those individuals. Using cardboard as his primary support, he often paints life-size cut-outs of landscapers or nannies and installs them “guerilla-style” in parks, the lawns of luxurious homes, or at the entrance to the Beverly Hills Hotel. For his submission to TARFEST, the artist is commenting on the immigration crisis and the countless instances of family separation that are presently taking place at our national border. <br />\r\n<br />\r\nCatering to all ages, TARFEST offers free kids art-making and cultural activities with Japan Foundation, Los Angeles, Fusion Academy, Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, The Petersen Automotive Museum and METRO. Intergenerational hip-hop and breakdancing collective Justice by Uniting in Creative Energy (JUiCE), based out of the MacArthur Park Recreation Center in the Rampart District of Los Angeles will conduct art and dance workshops as well. It is the fair distribution, the right proportion, the stability between opposite elements. It must result from balance, a harmony. The distribution of the lines, masses, solids and voids of a composition must ensure that the overall arrangement of a work is coherent.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe GCA Gallery Paris, presents a group exhibition with 9 artists: Dotmasters, Dzia, Etnik, Greg Jager, Kurar, Malakkai, Momies, Mr June and Otto Schade.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThese artists have studied the question of equilibrium/balance and have produced for this exhibition, works exclusively on paper.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nBalance is also a dynamic state, a subject in its own right. The rhythm or movement of the subject of a work sometimes leads the viewer to ask questions about the composition of the work as a whole. Etnik's pieces perfectly illustrate this idea with their floating geometric shapes whose energy starts from a central point and extends outwards.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nKurar traps our gaze by binding in the air, by simple fluorescent threads, heavy objects. In his works, he defies the laws of Newtonian physics to which we are accustomed, to transport us in his infantile and contesting imagination.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nMomies, by mixing different pictorial techniques and different mediums, by a painting that is both gestural and meticulous, harmonizes its abstract composition of its modules. The rhythm of the movements calms down or accelerates, the transparencies and superimpositions participate in the good reading of the works.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe precarious balances of Malakkai challenge us in his drawings. There is a surrealist influence in which poetry, precarious equilibrium and dreamlikeness mingle.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe structure of a work is very important if it is to be legible and coherent while being original. Otto Schade combines and fuses distinct animal forms, the result of which is a different interpretation of the subject. The precision of his lines and the perfect proportion of his proportions invite the eye to wander both above and in the work.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nDzia also handles the idea of the bestiary very well; here his compositions speak to us in a much more direct way. The delicacy and the poetry of his drawings reside mainly in his so identifiable treatment of the fauna. He achieves a certain balance of his arrangements with simple and abstract pictorial artifices that harmonize all his works.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nWanting to pay homage to the inventor of a certain type of tape, Dotmasters, in his series \"Stick em up\" consciously composes images that would be incoherent outside the artistic framework. He uses his technical prowess in realism, which he achieves with his precisely cut stencils, to \"stick\" vertically, using tape, various objects - here carnations, daffodils or tulips. The life that emerges from his paintings on paper, these bouquets in balance on a wall, pushes the spectator to wonder if he is not in front of a photography.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nFinally, Greg Jager, seeks a balance of shapes and colors according to the influences of the suprematist and constructivist painters. By using simple geometric shapes and a limited chromatic scale, he structures his work around a flat and deep dynamism.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe notion of balance in a plastic work is inseparable from the physical experience of our everyday life.
